How to Play Destiny 2 Expansions in Order

destiny 2, expansions

Destiny 2 has launched various expansions since its release in 2017. These expansions were a major part of the game’s content release, with each featuring a major story development. Some of the expansions are not in the game anymore and a player just starting might be confused about where to begin and what the story is. This article will go over all the expansions that are currently present in the game. The 30th Anniversary Pack is also a DLC but is not tied to any expansion or specific story. Therefore, it can be played anytime the players want.

Forsaken was the expansion that majorly revamped the gameplay experience of Destiny 2. The campaign of Forsaken is not available to play anymore but the expansion still offers access to various activities and Exotics. Most notable of these are The Last Wish Raid and The Shattered Throne Dungeon. Other than that, there are different Exotics and activities in The Dreaming City that players can enjoy.

Shadowkeep

Shadowkeep was released after Forsaken and is the expansion that made the story of the Light and Darkness saga clearer. It is in this campaign; that players first contact the Pyramids. The expansion features a campaign set on the Moon destination, the Garden of Salvation raid that takes place in the Black Garden. There is also the Pit of Heresy Dungeon as well as exciting Exotics to chase.

Beyond Light

Beyond Light was the first expansion that introduced us to the first Darkness subclass called Stasis. Taking place on the destination of Europa, Beyond Light allows the players to beat Fallen forces through the power of darkness. It paved the path for what the future of Destiny 2 abilities will look like. It also comes with Deep Stone Crypt Raid and Stasis abilities that players can unlock and customize.

The Witch Queen

The Witch Queen revealed a ton of answers about the Light and Darkness saga. Even introduces us to The Witness, the main antagonist of the franchise. The campaign of this expansion is one of the best that Bungie has ever created. It also allows players to play Vow of the Disciple Raid which is stunning and has some of the best weapons in the game.

Lightfall

Lightfall is one of the worst-reviewed expansions in Destiny 2 history. Even though, it brought a ton of quality-of-life updates. The story of the campaign and the new destination were really bad. The new raid Root of Nightmares was also extremely underwhelming. The only saving part about it was the new subclass Strand which proved to be a breath of fresh air for the PvE and PvP sandbox.

The Final Shape

The Final Shape is the latest expansion and marks the end of the Light and Darkness saga. It is in this campaign that Guardians finally confront The Witness in the Pale Heart of the Traveler. It is the most positively reviewed expansion and has a lot of great things going for it. The Salvation’s Edge raid is fantastic and the Prismatic subclass has broken all limits of buildcrafting.
