Zombies mode is back. Treyarch is back. This year’s annual edition of Call of Duty is back in the hands of Treyarch; and with it comes the highly anticipated return of round-based zombies. It’s as if someone messed around with life’s rewind button and took us back to the year 2015 when Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was released. So what can we, the die-hard round-based zombies fans, expect with this snippet of nostalgia on the horizon? Here are just a few of the many things:
Gobblegums are Back
For those of you who may have gotten into Call of Duty Zombies in more recent years (Vanguard and later), you may be wondering: What the heck is gobble gum? Gobblegums were introduced in Black Ops 3 zombies. They are in-game consumable gumballs that grant the consumer a special set of abilities and cost a set amount of points to obtain.
In Black Ops 6, players can expect to see 20+ gobblegums at launch. Some notable new additions to the inventory include Arsenal Accelerator: Field upgrades charge faster; Anywhere But Here: Teleport to a random location on the map.
Compared to the first (and last) time we saw gobblegums, there will be a few new ways they’ll work. In Black Ops 6, players will be able to change their selected gumballs while in the game, as opposed to needing to be done in the pre-game menu like before. Gobblegums are also now earned in-game at the end of each round.
Pack-A-Punch
Thanks to Treyarch, there will be no interaction menu when pack-a-punching your weapon in Black Ops 6. Gone are the days of having to clear out the entire area to be sure that you don’t take damage as you navigate through a menu screen to upgrade your weapon.
Pack-a-punch camos can now be turned on or off without the need to exploit the game in any way as you once had to in previous titles. Some weapons will also now get a new ability when pack-a-punched. But, as normal, primary, melee, and wonder weapons can all be upgraded only three times.
Perks
As expected, all of the staple perks in the Call of Duty franchise return including Jugger-Nog, Quick Revive, and Stamin-Up. In Black Ops 6, we’re being gifted a brand new perk: Melee Machiato. This new perk grants players the ability to give zombies a deadly punch that sends them flying backward instead of the traditional swipe of the gun.
Ammo Mods
Along with the traditional ammo mods, Black Ops 6 will introduce one new mod at launch: Shadow Rift. When attaching this ammo mod to your upgraded weapon, each bullet you fire has a chance of spawning a Kazimir-like black hole that will suck in nearby normal and special enemies and spit them into the air.
The list goes on, but by now you should get the point. Round-based Zombies is coming back, and it’ll be an experience like we’ve never seen before. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 releases October 25 on console and PC.
