Patch 1.6 of Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) introduces us to a new mechanic, Aftershock. Initially, two agents, Soldier 0 – Anby and Pulchra were released at the beginning of the patch, allowing us to get better acquainted with this new form of damage. And now it’s time for the 3rd Aftershock character to take the stage. Trigger, the Eyes of Obol, is locked, loaded, and ready to fire.
How Trigger Works
A Stunning Display
Trigger is a S-Rank Electric Stun Agent. As such, her primary purpose is to Stun the enemy. While most other Stun Agents need to be On-Field to fulfill their role, Trigger is a bit different. Thanks to how her Aftershock works, she can still inflict Daze while Off-Field.
Building and Spending Purge
Holding the Attack Button causes Trigger to crouch down and continuously fire shots. While she does this, she gains Purge (indicated by the bar under her picture at the top of the screen). She can hold 100 Purge, and each shot generates 25 (so it takes 4 shots to fill up the bar).
Trigger spends Purge while Off-Field when her allies attack enemies. When she does, she will deal Aftershock DMG.
If her allies use Basic Attack, Dodge Counter, Special Attack, Dash Attack, or Quick Assist, she will spend 3 Purge to do a light attack (2 shots).
If they use EX Special, Assist Follow-Up, or Ultimate, she will spend 5 Purge to do a heavy attack (3 shots followed by a Finishing Move). The heavy attack can only be used 2 times within 20 seconds.
Free Aftershock Attacks by Spending Energy
Trigger can also trigger (really no way of getting around that pun) her Aftershock light attacks by using her EX Special and her Ultimate. When performed this way, the activation of the attack does not consume Purge.
In both cases, the free attacks can only happen a certain number of times. 4 for her EX Special and 6 for her Ultimate.
What to Build on Trigger
The Stats that you will want on Disc Drives 4-6 are CRIT Rate, Electric DMG, and Impact. If you can manage to get to 95% CRIT Rate without a CRIT Rate DD3, then you can use CRIT DMG instead.
Her personal W-Engine (Spectral Gaze) is, of course, the best option but if you don’t want it or don’t get it then using Anby’s W-Engine (Demara Battery Mark II) is a decent alternative. Von Lycaon’s W-Engine (The Restrained) is also good if you are lucky enough to get it.
As for which Disc Drive she should use, the new Shadow Harmony 4-Piece set is the best option. It provides bonus ATK and CRIT Rate when Aftershock Attacks hit. Pair it with 2 Shockstar Disco pieces for best results.
Who does Trigger Synergize With?
Since Trigger needs to be on the same team as someone from her own faction (Obol Squad) or another Electric Agent for her Additional Ability, the following S-Rank characters are her best options.
- Soldier 0 – Anby: She can buff other character’s Aftershock DMG
- Soldier 11: She shares the same faction as Trigger, which means they can activate each other’s Additional Abilities
- Asaba Harumasa: He needs either a Stun or an Anomaly character for his abilities to work, she needs an Electric character.
There are only 2 A-Rank Electric characters, Anton and Seth, and no A-Rank Obol Squad characters. While Anton can work with Trigger, neither he nor Seth is really a good fit for Trigger. Anton is too Energy-hungry, and Seth would be redundant.
