Overwatch Mobile Has Been Announced For The Franchise

Upcoming Overwatch Mobile

In recent times, there has been a growing trend where popular shooter video games are releasing mobile versions for a wider audience. One of the most recent examples includes the announcement of mobile ports for Destiny Rising, and now, Overwatch Mobile. Overwatch, known for its success as a hero shooter game, has garnered a huge following within the gaming community.

Despite the game’s popularity, Overwatch has yet to fully capitalize its iconic characters outside of the main game. With the introduction of Overwatch Mobile, fans can now look forward to experiencing the beloved characters and gameplay on their mobile devices, thereby expanding the reach and accessibility of the game.

Blizzard Has Plans to Expand the Overwatch Franchise

After failing to keep the promise of a PvE campaign for Overwatch 2 and canning a Netflix Overwatch series, the Overwatch team pretty much confirmed a massive update for the sequel. With that said, the confirmation of the update is now official as Blizzard has expressed its plans to further expand the franchise with the addition of Overwatch Mobile.

Overwatch was led by Walter Kong, who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2, as well as new projects like a mobile version of the franchise, [Overwatch Mobile],” Schreier writes, as seen on Dexerto.

Details on the Overwatch mobile version remain scarce, leaving questions unanswered. It’s unclear whether it’s a direct port or a reimagined take on the series, and its development status is uncertain. Given Blizzard’s history of shelved projects, no one knows if the mobile port would make its way to the open. With that said, only time will tell. For the time being, fans have no choice but to wait for an official announcement from Blizzard and Overwatch General Manager Walter Kong to throw some light on the mobile version’s progress and plans, including its release date.

Final Thoughts

Because Activision found a lot of success in the Call of Duty Mobile Port – which was billions of dollars in annual revenue, almost as large as the mainline games and Warzone combined – it’s not much of a surprise that Overwatch, yet another big FPS shooter game developed by Blizzard, is also going the Call of Duty route, making its way to mobile smartphones as Overwatch Mobile. That’s not the only Blizzard shooter that would be getting a mobile version, Blizzard developers also reportedly pitched WarCraft 4 and Call of Duty RTS for a mobile version to be made available.

This move indicates an intentional shift in Activision Blizzard’s marketing strategy. From the looks, Blizzard intends to use the massive popularity of its franchises to explore mobile opportunities – as it has proven successful more than once. As this continues to go on, Blizzard fans can expect to see even more of their beloved franchises getting a mobile version.
