While Alan Wake 2 isn’t even a year old yet having launched back in October of 2023, having gotten both the normal and Final Draft ending makes me want Alan Wake 3 even more. While Alan Wake 2 will be getting both a Night Springs and Lake House DLC, I’m sure Remedy is going to wait to explore more of Alan’s story in a full-fledged sequel. For those who haven’t had the chance to play Alan Wake 2 yet, there will be spoilers for both the normal and Final Draft endings in the article so spoiler alert.
13 Years In The Lake
Besides releasing thirteen years after the first one, Alan Wake 2 also takes place thirteen years later which means Alan has been trapped in the Dark Place for well over a decade. As a fan of Remedy’s games and a fan of the first Alan Wake game, I’ll admit there had been a point where I had given up hope on ever getting a sequel.
For a brief recap of those who have forgotten the events of the first game. Alan and his wife Alice go to Bright Falls as a romantic getaway with Alice’s secret intentions of helping Alan cure his writer’s block. Alice then gets kidnapped by Dark Presence and Alan spends the game trying to rescue her and ends up in Cauldron Lake at the end of the game.
Alan Wake 2 Normal/Final Draft
When Alan Wake 2 first launched last October it had a cliffhanger ending that saw Saga Anderson shooting Alan with a bullet of light. Saga then tries to call her daughter but the scene ends with the phone still ringing. In December, The Final Draft was revealed for AWII which was a new game+ of sorts that saw slight deviations to the game.
There were more manuscript pages to pick up and the ending was also extended. Saga’s phone call goes through and she’s able to talk with her daughter. Alan also wakes up and reveals that his evil doppelganger Scratch is gone. I like the Final Draft ending because it doesn’t end on a trope-filled cliffhanger but leaves the story open for Alan Wake 3.
Honestly, I was really happy The Final Draft got released because I was looking for an excuse to replay a great survival horror game like AW2 again.
What Could Alan Wake 3 Do With The Series?
While I can’t even begin to imagine what the talented Sam Lake could bring to the table for AW3, I will say something I want to see is Alan and Saga destroying/sealing the Dark Presence for good. I’d also leave to see more of Mr. Door’s characters in Alan Wake 3 as well.
Another thing I’d love to see is more boss musical numbers like Champion of Light which has easily become one of my favorite songs since hearing it. I’d also like to see Barry Wheeler reappear in the sequel since he’s Alan’s best friend and helped him in the first game. While I’m sure the success of Alan Wake 2 means we’ll see an Alan Wake 3 at some point, I just hope we don’t have to wait another thirteen years to see it.
